Most Long Term Drug Rehab Programs Require Detoxification

The process of detoxification as part of drug rehab can be dangerous and should only be started under medical supervision at professional drug detox centers. The sudden stop of drug taking can trigger symptoms as dangerous as the drug addiction itself. This type of radical intervention by individuals or family members hoping to help an addict to quit “cold turkey” is a good strategy but any drug detox is best left to medical-detox-program professionals.

Sudden detoxification is best handled at private long term drug rehab and detox centers that offer a holistic approach to the addiction problem, using a whole mind and body course of treatment. This well rounded therapy addresses not only the the physical, but the psychological problems as well that are associated with drug and alcohol addiction.

Not only can the detoxification process become a medical danger to the patient, many family and friends who want to help would themselves become of little comfort through the early stages of detox as they can be horribly upsetting to someone forced to stand back and observe as is the case with some of the deeper reaches of addiction detoxification.

With all this advice also comes the statement that not all addictions need detoxification. Some mild levels of alcoholism, albeit a small percentage are successfully rehabbed without. Some classifications of drugs also do not need the chemical cleansing.
