Flavonoids to Prevent Heart Problems
Flavonoids were discovered in 1930. From that time until now, have studied many of their properties. These are found mainly in plants and plant foods. One of the applications that have the flavonoids is their action against cardiovascular disease, and prevention of heart problems.
These plant substances called flavonoids, at first thought they were vitamins. But after carrying out further investigations it was discovered that they were not, although their properties have become important because of their beneficial effect on cardiovascular disease.
While it is important to know which are the flavonoids and a wide variety of them is also important to know how these substances can treat heart problems naturally.
Flavonoids have antioxidant properties that block the action of free radicals on the cells, preventing the formation of plaques or clots that may impair the proper functioning of the heart muscle and arterial system. According to some scientific research certain flavonoids present in broccoli have antioxidant capacity 5 times greater than vitamin C and vitamin E.
Flavonoids also reduce oxidation of LDL or bad cholesterol by decreasing its toxicity, especially in the arterial walls.
These characteristics make the flavonoids in foods and plants, into allies against cardiovascular disease, reducing the likelihood of complications and improving quality of life of those who consume them.
