They found that children who continued in the habit of thumb sucking or pacifier use for more than three years were three times more likely to suffer from language disorders.

Clara Barbosa, lead author of the research, said the results of this work under the current trend of extending the use of pacifiers and bottle more than is strictly necessary.

“These results suggest that extending the habit of sucking a greater amount of time after feeding may have undesirable effects on language development in young children,” said the expert.
